Our Story
From STI to Staccato 2011. Built for Heroes, hand-built in Texas.
Staccato 2011 — Built for Heroes
We didn’t set out to reinvent the 1911. We set out to make it better.
More than 30 years ago, STI began advancing John Browning’s 1911 design, bringing greater capacity, improved ergonomics, and competition-level performance to shooters who demanded more.
Competition became our proving ground. Thousands of matches and championships demonstrated what the 2011 platform could do, and gave us the foundation to take it further.
In 2019, we introduced the Staccato name. In 2020, the company officially became Staccato 2011. The name changed. The pursuit didn’t.
We took what we learned in competition and continued refining the 2011 for people who demand performance when it matters, from law enforcement professionals and special operations to responsible firearm owners.
Today, Staccato is more than a handgun company. Through 2011 handguns, parts, ammunition, training, service, Ranch experiences, and community, we help people become more capable, confident, and prepared.
More than 30 years later, the idea that started it all still drives us forward: Build better. Perform when it matters. Built for Heroes.
From STI to Staccato
For over 25 years the gun community knew us as STI, the company that evolved John Browning’s classic 1911 design into the 2011 gun platform. With its sophisticated ergonomics, increased capacity, and less recoil, our 2011 pistols were embraced by competition shooters for their speed and accuracy.
The STI brand was, and arguably still is, the most decorated brand in the competitive shooting world, having won thousands of matches and championships. Flash forward to today: we are Staccato.
The Staccato standard isn’t a claim. It’s our how.
We don’t believe excellence belongs in a mission statement. It belongs in the details.
Every pistol is test-fired before shipment. Critical dimensions are verified throughout production. Parts are rejected for cosmetic flaws. Human judgment remains part of quality control.
Confidence and trust aren’t something we can put in a box. It’s something we must earn.
Our values define what it means to be part of the Staccato family: accountability, integrity, and mission first.
One brand. Many ways in.
A Staccato isn’t just something you buy. It’s something you learn with, train with, experience, and become better with. That’s why we’ve built more around the platform: service that backs ownership, training that builds capability, experiences that bring you closer to the brand, and a community of people who share the same pursuit of excellence.

Built for those who stand ready
Not everyone buys a Staccato for the same reason. Some carry it as part of their duty. Some compete with it. Some train because they want to be better prepared. Some simply want the confidence that comes from knowing they’re capable. Different reasons. Same standard.
Where does the name Staccato come from?
A sound. A standard. A name. In music, staccato describes short, sharply separated sounds. To us, it’s the sound of steel being hit in quick succession.
We first introduced the name Staccato in 2019 for our duty- and personal defense-oriented pistols. This line was incredibly well received by consumers and professionals alike. In 2020, we officially rebranded the entire company to Staccato 2011.
